Meet Dr. Laurel
Dr. Laurel offers highly personalized virtual care as a solo practitioner. Her connection to Arizona runs deep — she grew up in Phoenix, completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona Honors College, and later returned to complete a child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship year at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, which included integrative medicine education through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Arizona is where her integrative philosophy took shape.
She believes where you live should never determine the quality of psychiatric care you can access. Arizona is a geographically vast state, and access to specialized psychiatric care — particularly double board-certified expertise in both adult and child & adolescent psychiatry — can be difficult to find outside of major metro areas. Telehealth changes that.
Her virtual appointments are conducted on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform and are designed to feel unhurried and personal. She brings the same integrative, whole-person philosophy to every virtual visit: comprehensive evaluation, thoughtful treatment planning, and a willingness to look beyond medication to nutrition, lifestyle, supplements, and mind-body approaches when appropriate.

FAQs
Is telehealth as effective as in-person psychiatry?
Yes, studies show equivalent outcomes, with the added benefit of reduced patient stress.
What technology do I need?
Just a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a stable internet connection. All of our communications are conducted via HIPAA-compliant tools & services.
What is an integrative psychiatrist?
An integrative (or holistic) psychiatrist provides care by prioritizing lifestyle factors like sleep, physical activity, nutrition, and stress management alongside traditional clinical care. She integrates medication within a holistic treatment plan that can include supplements, behavioral strategies, mindfulness-based approaches, and diagnostic laboratory assessment to evaluate biological factors impacting mental health.
Why choose a psychiatrist who doesn’t take insurance (out-of-network)?
Many psychiatrists in private practice choose not to accept insurance in order to provide care that is more individualized & adaptive to each patient's needs. Insurance plans often place restrictions on mental health treatment, such as limiting the frequency of appointments or mandating specific treatment approaches.
These limitations can interrupt patient care and may slow the pace of symptom improvement. By working outside of insurance, psychiatrists can spend more time with each patient, tailor treatment to individual needs, & make clinical decisions without outside interference or administrative delays, ultimately offering a higher standard of care. You may also benefit from greater confidentiality, as your medical information is not shared with insurance providers.
